DESCRIPTION
Janis Joplin died on October 4, 1970, just days after recording her final vocal tracks for Pearl. Columbia Records released the album posthumously in January 1971 — it became the best-selling album of her career. The promotional merchandise produced for the album's release was among the most carefully controlled in Columbia's history, aware of the cultural weight of releasing a dead artist's final work. Winterland produced limited examples for press and radio promotion. Authenticated originals are extraordinarily rare. Value: $8,000–$30,000.
