DESCRIPTION
Nike's Moon Shoe — created by Bill Bowerman using a waffle iron to create the waffle sole for the 1972 US Olympic Track & Field Trials — is the rarest Nike sneaker in existence. Only 12 pairs were ever made. A single pair sold at Sotheby's in 2019 for $437,500 — the highest price ever paid for a sneaker at auction at that time. The waffle sole pattern, which Bowerman developed in his kitchen, became the foundation for Nike's entire sole technology. Owning a Moon Shoe is equivalent to owning a piece of industrial design history. Value: $200,000–$500,000.
