Shawn Stussy began hand-signing surfboards in Laguna Beach in 1980, and his signature evolved into the iconic double-S logo. The "World Tribe" campaign of the early 1990s connected Stüssy stores across New York, Tokyo, London, and Los Angeles into the original streetwear network — before the internet. The International Stüssy Tribe (IST) was a real group of cultural ambassadors who spread the brand globally.
