MA-1 Flight Jacket 1959

The MA-1 flight jacket — developed for the US Air Force in the late 1950s — is the founding garment of bomber jacket culture. Alpha Industries became the primary manufacturer of the MA-1 for the US military. The original sage green colorway, the blaze orange reversible lining (for survival visibility), and the ribbed waistband and cuffs created a silhouette that has been referenced by Prada, Raf Simons, Stone Island, and virtually every menswear designer. 1960s contract examples: $300–$1,200.
