DESCRIPTION
L.L. Bean's Maine Hunting Shoe — invented by Leon Leonwood Bean in 1912 — is one of the oldest continuously produced American footwear items. The original rubber bottom/leather top construction that Bean developed to solve the problem of wet feet while hunting has remained essentially unchanged for over a century. Pre-1960 examples with the original hand-sewn welt and the Brunswick, Maine label are the most collectible. The Bean Boot became a cultural touchstone during the preppy revival of the 1980s. Value: $200–$800.
