Superstar "Shell Toe" 1969

The Adidas Superstar — introduced in 1969 — is one of the most important sneaker designs in history. The revolutionary rubber shell toe (replacing the previous canvas toe box) and the herringbone court traction pattern made the Superstar the dominant basketball shoe of the 1970s. Original West German-made examples from 1969-1975 with the original "Made in West Germany" stamp predate the Superstar's adoption by hip-hop culture (Run DMC's "My Adidas" in 1986) and the mass production era. Fewer than 100 authenticated original pairs are known. Value: $5,000–$20,000.
