DESCRIPTION
The New Balance 990 — introduced in 1982 at $100 (the most expensive running shoe ever at the time) — established the "dad shoe" aesthetic and the premium running shoe category. Made entirely in the USA at the Norridgewock, Maine factory, the 990 was the first shoe to use the ENCAP midsole. The original 1982-1990 USA-made 990s with the ENCAP sole visible through the side window predate the brand's licensing deals. Value: $500–$2,000.
