Exploded Compass Jacket

Stone Island was founded in 1982 by Massimo Osti, who had previously created C.P. Company. The first-generation Stone Island pieces feature the original compass rose badge in woven format (later versions became embroidered). Osti's obsession with fabric experimentation — ice jacket, liquid ammonia treatment, heat-reactive dyes — made each season a materials science project. Early 1980s pieces are the most collectible, especially workwear-influenced designs with unusual fabric treatments. Hardcore terrace culture in the UK drove the brand's streetwear adoption.
